Tearing down the donor e30

Been a while.. We've been tied up with work, and our move into the new shop. So monday I started tearing into our donor car. Our newest helper Jason came by the shop to give me a hand- Pretty much to make sure I didnt burn the place down ;)

A friend of ours from Miami had put alot of TLC into this 86 e30 over the years, only to learn that from years of neglected weather-stripping, hiding under the undercoating- the entire firewall, floorpan, rockers, etc had rusted out. So he offered for anyone that was willing to remove the good parts from the car, and return it to him, could have the rolling shell. We thought we stole the car from him, until the carpet came up... I cant blame him for giving her away.

So I wasted no time rolling her in, removing all trim/glass, and grabbing the sawzall.

Next was pulling out the wiring harness's to get easier access to the firewall/tunnel. Then remove all the heater components.

At this point Ill have a decent idea where the steering/pedals/master.cyl will mount. Both sides of the firewall was so far gone, but we may be able to save the mounting tabs to save a little time.

Next was cutting out the floor pans, to try and salvage any good metal we could. The rear portion of the pan was just surface rust, so we're hoping it can be used to repair the 2002's floor- which is even worse than this one!
We are fortunate to have a rust free trans tunnel, which we'll also need to fit the getrag260
Then chopped her in half to free up some room in the shop.

Then John took a little time away from work to come pose with the carcass.
Ok, enough playing around, lets flip it over and start tearing out the subframe, suspension, and anything else we may need.

Lotsa PB blaster, and a few broken bolts later it was removed as a unit. Ready for test fitting. A few more things to cut out, and remove- and off to the scrapper she goes.

Until next time..
